Every month Downtown Corner Brook interviews the owners of one of our member businesses. This month we spoke with Jeff Fost of City Pharmacy. If you’d like to be profiled, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Did you grow up in Corner Brook?
Yes, I grew up in Corner Brook. When I graduated university I got a studentship job here at City Pharmacy. It was fun, with a nice atmosphere. I loved the old style pharmacy that City offers as apposed to the larger companies. As a lover of skiing and biking, Corner Brook was a perfect place for me to stay. It was a good fit for me. A few years later I met my wife, and settled here.
Why did you decide to open your business?
I didn’t open this business. I started here as a pharmacy student, and in 1999 I was promoted to manager.
For people who haven’t been to your business, why should they check it out?
It’s a really relaxed, friendly environment. There’s a down-home feel here that you can’t get anywhere else. If you as an individual, unbiased, came in and looked around the store and chatted with the staff it’d be a much different feeling than if you walked into any big box store and try and track down the staff. That’s the neat thing about here, you’re really welcomed.
Tell us a bit about your business and what your business has to offer.
We have something different then anyone else has to offer. For example, our dispensary setting is totally wide open. So you’ll see, start to finish, when you hand me your prescription, you can watch me the whole time. You could say “Hey excuse me Jeff, what’s up? You’re taking an awful long time!” or “I need to ask a question” and we could have this conversation as I’m doing your prescription. This takes the mystery out of the drop-off/pick-up style pharmacy. You get to see everything going on, making it much more personal. The personal service you get when coming in here is unique; the staff will make the time for you.
What’s your favourite thing about our downtown?
I travel a bit, and whenever I travel, especially to small towns, I always go to downtown. It’s always so nice to walk around the downtown core. It has a nice feel. As a tourist, this is where I flock, as do a lot of the tourists coming to Corner Brook. A lot of the tourists coming h
ere looking for a gentle stroll, to relax and grab a coffee, downtown is where they go. So with our location, we get tourists coming through our store. That’s my favourite part. I love meeting new people, talking with them and offering them information, even if it’s just letting them know a good place to eat.
