In recent years, Corner Brook has been expanding its culinary range with the introduction of different restaurants. In September 2015, the west coast got a taste of Jamaican fusion, brought to us by Jamaican native Raymond Thomas and executive chef Kirk Myers.

“Fusion” means that the restaurant prepares authentic Jamaican dishes by using local ingredients, which in our case means things like cod fish and wild berries that are found right here. After all, Newfoundland and Jamaica have a unique connection; The Great Exchange between Newfoundland and Jamaica is a very interesting part of our history.

Taste of Jamaica has also started hosting cooking classes for people who want to come in and get really hands-on with Jamaican cuisine. Participants get the opportunity to see the kitchen and the food, then learn the process and some “chef tricks” that go on behind the scenes. Kirk designed the classes deliberately so that people could take the recipes and make them at home with simple, household ingredients.
